Python for Beginners

Coding Grace will be having our first full day female-friendly workshop, and to get things going, it will be Python for beginners. Men are welcome to join as a Coding Gracer's +1.

Friday evening, 10th May (18:00 - 21:00): Set up machines and self-driven warmup tutorials Saturday, 11th May (09:00 - 18:00): Full day of lectures and hands on workshop

A Taste of R

An introduction to the statistical programming language R, aimed at beginners. The workshop will look mainly at working with the R programming environment, using Packages, basic programming, working with data objects and some programming statements such as For While and If. The workshop is intended for beginners. Statistical programming will be mentioned, but will be tangential to the overall lesson outcome.

The Raspberry Pi is a credit-card sized computer that plugs into your TV and a keyboard. It is a capable little computer which can be used in electronics projects, and for many of the things that your desktop PC does, like spreadsheets, word-processing and games. It also plays high-definition video.

As part of /GLITCH festival at RUA RED we are running a workshop which will consist of 3 lessons presented by one of the mentors who will introduce students to the basic concepts of HyperText Mark-up Language (HTML) and Cascading Style Sheets (CSS) with a emphasis on hands-on exercises. Lunch is included.

F#: Machine Learning from Disaster!

The goal of this session is to use F# and sample data from Kaggle to predict who lives and who dies on the Titanic!

RoboCode - Create a robot battle tank in Java Cancelled

Come join us for a few hours of virtual robot wars and learn how to control your robot tank with Robocode.

Robocode is a programming game, where the goal is to develop a robot battle tank to battle against other tanks in Java or .NET. The robot battles are running in real-time and on-screen. Participants will be guided through writing an AI for their own robot in Java.

Interactive Fiction with Twine Cancelled

Remember choose your own adventure game books, you can learn the basics to get started with creating your own interactive fiction online using Twine. In this taster workshop you will learn about interactive fiction and take the first steps to get up and running with this popular interactive fiction tool. Participants must bring their own laptop (and charger!) along for the session.

Interactive Fiction with Fungus (Unity3D)

Remember choose your own adventure games, well, you can create your own interactive fiction using Fungus, an open-source extension for Unity 3D. Chris Gregan (Snozbot Games) will be our mentor.

You will need to bring your own laptop with Unity 3D and Fungus installed.
