Why do we have CVs?

ℹ️ Note: This post is for direct hiring managers and programmers who are doing the interviews, and job seekers. This is not recruiters who normally filter CVs and resumés before it gets to the person doing the technical interviews.

Note to self - remove from post - We should probably mention that this post is advice about CVs when it comes to how to optimise for other programmers reading the CV (rather than recruitment agencies/ HR/etc)

🤔 A good fit for the role?

ApplicantHiring Manager
TODO
  • Is there a way to make the job interesting for the candidate?
  • Requirements and nice-to-haves must be clearly delineated.

🚫 Don't do this on CVs

ApplicantHiring Manager
  • Long CVs
  • Too many fonts
    • Use up to 2 fonts
    • Legible font size
  • Too much detail that's not relevant to the job
  • Extracurriculars hobbies, something interesting but keep it short.

✅ Do’s (ideal CV that stands out)

ApplicantHiring Manager
  • Keep it to 1 page (max 2 pages)
  • What are you most proud of (how to condense it)
  • Summary (put this at the top)
    • What have you done?
    • What do you know?
    • What do you want to do?
    • PDF format
  • Skills relevant to the role
  • Show that you have career progression
  • Answers on how will the hire grow in the company?
